Happy LGBT History Month!
February celebrates the formerly marginalised history of lesbian, gay, bi and trans people, who have spent the best part of the past two centuries in obscurity and suffering persecution. Our display this year compares and finds similarities between the oppression and marginalisation of LGBT and BAME people and highlights the strength in unity against oppression whoever it is directed against.
Given the homophobia commonplace among BAME people and racist attitudes are all too common among LGBT people, those who are both LBGT and BAME often find themselves with no-one willing to accept them. We have also been promised an exciting poster display on the history of the impact the AIDS pandemic had on minority groups later this month. We can hardly wait! Come browse our collection of books on LGBT history, culture and stories from LGBT people. Educate yourself and be part of the difference the world needs.
There are even more books down by the Library café on our monthly book display rotation shelves.
