We have been going green steadily for years now and have won a silver NUS Sustainability Award for our efforts, of which we are really proud. We recycle over 80% (sometimes nearer 90%!) of our rubbish, but we know we can do even better if all of you help by separating your rubbish before throwing it away.
Some of our recycling bins (the big red bins and open topped grey/green bins) have only one section. Please put only packaging and paper in these bins. Any half-eaten food or leftover drink dropped into these bins will contaminate the entire binful so that it has to be sent to landfill instead of being recycled.
Blue bins are provided on the ground floor where you can pour away any leftover drink before dropping the empty bottle or cup into the recycling bin. Other bins around the library have three sections and can handle any kind of waste.
Black topped bin sections – food (fruit peelings, half-eaten sandwiches, etc.).
Red/green topped bins – recycling (packaging, empty cups and bottles, lids, paper, stationary, and anything else that not wet or about to rot),
Blue bins/blue bin sections – liquids (your undrunk water, cola, coffee, etc). Please empty your cups and bottles into the blue bins before putting the empty cup or bottle into the green bin section to be recycled.
