British Sandwich Week

sandwich photoIt’s British Sandwich Week.  Ever since the Fourth Earl of Sandwich and his friends ordered their meat served at the gambling tables served between bread (presumably to keep their fingers grease free while playing cards) rather than leave for a more formal dining experience, ordering “the same as Sandwich” (later corrupted to a ‘sandwich’) became an established way of preparing food convenient to eat outside of a formal dining setting. The term “sandwich” now includes everything from hot baps to bagels, but not burgers where the entire product is served hot.
