Using British Standards Online

British Standards are an important resource for many of our clients and we have a license to offer standards for download for study purposes.  Unlike journals, where you are allowed to save/print one copy of one article from each issue of a journal or books where you can print/photocopy up to 5% of the book, the agreement with the British Standards Institute standards license is a little more restrictive.  BSI keenly monitor how much is downloaded/printed and are swift to act if someone downloads too much.
If you want to download just one or two standards for your studies or academic work at the University, please don’t worry.  The standards are there for you to use; we just ask that you never share them outside the University or use them for commercial purposes.

Downloading a lot?

Excessive downloading and printing of the material is prohibited, and the license is quite restrictive, so if you intend to download more than a little, or if you have any questions or concerns, please ask a librarian at the Support Services Desk, by phone, email, online chat or by web form.  We will be happy to advise you further.
