Elgar Online Research Reviews revisited

We subscribe to 169 Elgar Online Research Reviews – not the entire collection but a good swathe of it.  A Discovery search for “elgar research reviews” returns a record with a link to the full content.  Here you can browse by title and refine by subject and date.  You can also do a keyword search in the top search bar.

Making sure you are logged in

If you are using Elgar Research Reviews away from the University campus and have not set up VPN (or Web Proxy) access you will need to click on the “Home” link and use the “Shibboleth” login link.

Useful content

There is an option to select Monograph Books.  Some of these are already in the library collection either as print copies or an e-book.  Some titles have extracts and chapters available as PDF downloads. You may also see titles that appear to be completely unavailable to you but we have been ordering Elgar books for many years, independently from Elgar Online, so please double-check on our catalogue, using a title search, before contacting us with a book order.

Selecting Business & Management under Subject, you will see there are dozens of titles available as Research Reviews.  The option to search within a book is useful.  There are links offering to “Find it in your library” and “Locate using Google Scholar”.   We regret that a technical problem means the “Find it in your Library” link does not work.  Please use the “Locate using Google Scholar” option or copy and paste the title details into the Discovery search box on the Library website and click “Search”.  It is best to copy the title and not the ISBN of books because printed books and ebooks have different ISBNs.

Elgar Research Reviews consist of two principal components: a scholarly Review Article and a list of Recommended Readings.  The Review Article prepared by a leading scholar introduces the relevant field of academic study by making reference to the most seminal articles within that field. This piece sets in context the readings that follow, illustrating how they have shaped scholarship and why they are important to the development of the field. The Recommended Readings have full references to facilitate further research.

However be aware that Elgar Research Reviews offer a descriptive, historical view rather and lack detailed analysis of events.  While useful for business students and staff you may have to consider a more analytical approach for academic writing.
