Intermittent problems reported with Library electronic resources and reading lists (resolved)

Update 14.09.16 – We are pleased to report that Information Services have now rectified this problem.  All our electronic resources and online reading lists should be working normally again.  If you experience any further problems, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Intermittent problems have been experienced affecting online reading lists and other Library resources, including the Discovery Service and Ebrary ebook platform.  Problems have been reported at different times with all the major browsers, although Firefox appears the least badly affected so far.   Information Services have investigated the problem and advice from our authentication provider, the UK Access Management Federation has been sought.  We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Workaround for logging into online reading lists

For online reading lists, it has been found that visiting the Reading Lists web page (from the Library homepage select Information Resources from the top menu bar and then Reading Lists on the left).  Carry out a forced refresh of your web browser at this point by pressing Ctrl +F5 and then click Sign in.  A forced refresh clears the web browser cache (the saved versions of web pages and associated data) and reloads the entire page from scratch.

The keystrokes to trigger a forced refresh vary with different operating systems.  For Windows, Apple Mac and Linux computers they are:

  • Windows: Ctrl + F5
  • Mac OS: Cmd + R
  • GNU/Linux: F5
