New business database – Kompass.com

kompass

Kompass.com is a B2B (Business-to-Business) database which provides global and local company, product and business contacts.  If you want to find out more then search the library catalogue under EasyBusiness.  It is specifically designed for businesses, to create tailored searches for services, products, industries and potential new business partners, using a database of more than 4 million companies based in 60 countries.

By selecting filters, such as Location, Activities and Employees sales and marketing lists can be created which can be saved in a personal folder called My Data.  These lists can also be downloaded and printed. The Activities filter offers several styles of Industrial Classification -the Kompass option is the most concise but if you want more detailed classifications use one of the other options. Data can be analysed in pie or bar charts or a table of statistics and can also be exported into an Excel spreadsheet or saved to CSV format.

Kompass is good for business startups and students needing to build case studies into their portfolios. Campus use only or you can access it from home if you set up web proxy. There are a few help options if you need assistance. Webchat appears as soon as you enter the site but you can switch this off if you prefer and there is a short video that explains how to use the database. There is also an email address and an 0800 phone number providing additional support. If you have any queries please contact Sue or Lizzie your Business Librarians.
