New business database – COBRA: complete business reference adviser

Welcome to a new business database.  COBRA is here to stay following a successful trial earlier this year. It is especially useful for any student who is thinking of setting up a small business or is looking for career guidance and needs expert advice and background information. It is also an excellent reference source for business advisers and researchers.

COBRA provides fact sheets, reports and bulletins all searchable under headings such as: business opportunity profiles, sector guides, local area profiles and business events. It holds detailed start up guides for over 600 small business trades, sectors and professions, together with details of over 1,600 courses, qualifications and training providers for business start ups, business trades and professions. There are guides to over 300 small business management subjects and ‘how-to’ articles covering marketing, finance, HR/employment, administration, tax, and e-commerce.  There is also access to a business legal library covering aspects such as consumer and trading law, and intellectual property.

Scroll through the long list of occupations to see what business or legal support you need if you want to open a cafe or a tearoom, become a professional actor, set up an architect’ s practice, start up and trade as a fashion designer or specialise in coaching or training.  The Business Opportunity Profiles provide detailed sector analysis including issues and trends together with helpful website links.  The mini BOP reports cover individual jobs or professions. Under Business Events our CCI  fashion students can find information on up and coming events where they can market their designs. For PBS students there are events listed for Travel and Tourism and some hotel/hospitality events are here.

COBRA provides everything our budding entrepreneur needs to set up a business. The database covers the whole of the United Kingdom and information is updated on a daily basis. Every faculty should find COBRA has something useful to offer its staff and students.  No logging in required. Campus use only or set up Web Proxy on your home computer.
