Mail Art in the Library

Next time you visit the library, make sure that you take a look at the fabulous Mail Art exhibition on the first floor, curated by Oliver Tubb, MA(Res) Creative Industries student. Ollie’s project aims to archive and promote an extensive collection of Mail Art donated to the University by noted artist Patricia Collins almost a decade ago.

The unique artwork on display in the library is by staff and students, mainly from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, and has been designed to fit a brief around the theme, Exchange.

Following a tour of the University, the work will be archived and kept within the Book Room of the Illustration Department for subsequent students to view. If you are a Distance Learner and can’t make it into the Library, Ollie has documented the work online too.

If you would like to find out more about Mail Art, visit the Tate website for a quick introduction, then visit the Discovery Service on the library homepage – you may find it helpful to limit your search by subject: Creative Arts. If you are interested in the University of Portsmouth’s project, please feel free to contact: mailartcollection@gmail.com.
