Academic e-journals now available through public libraries

Portsmouth Central Library, Guildhall Square

Portsmouth City Council public library service and a number of other public libraries around the country are providing free access to academic e-journal articles via a scheme called “Access to Research“.

You have to physically visit the library to access the full text of the articles but you can search for what is available here: http://accesstoresearch.pls.org.uk/.  They have access to some e-journals which the University Library does not subscribe to, so if you find an article that is not in stock, it might be quicker to read it in the public library than to request it by interlibrary loan, and will save one of your limited number of interlibrary loans in case you really need it later on.

If you are a distance learner, you can find a full list of participating libraries listed here: http://www.accesstoresearch.org.uk/libraries.
