We are pleased to announce trial access to two new newspaper archives until 31 December 2015. The links below give you access on campus. If you want to use them off-campus, you will need to use the Web Proxy Service.
Try out the latest release of British 19th & 20th century regional newspapers (we already have parts 1-3). Coverage goes up to 1950 for Aberdeen, Bath, Cheltenham, Derby, Dover, Dundee, Gloucester, Nottingham and Yeovil – The Western Gazette, but many other towns are covered by runs which end earlier.
The US newspaper trial includes African-American newspapers as well as titles that pre-date a state’s admission into the Union. There is a wide variety of titles and date coverage e.g. Afro-American (Baltimore), Daily Hot Blast, (Anniston, Alabama) Detroit Free Press, The Washington Globe, with the oldest newspaper dating from 1800. There are numerous ways to search or browse. If you like this, you may also like our new African-American Communities database which covers the daily lives of African Americans across two centuries.
Please send any feedback about either of the archive trials to firstname.lastname@example.org.
