It’s always great to see members of Library staff developing skills, but a recent event is worthy of note when one of our Assistant Faculty Librarians travelled to Hong Kong in her capacity as an Accreditation Assessor for CILIP.
CILIP is the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals and one of their many roles is to ensure the standards of courses in librarianship and information science. The courses may be in the United Kingdom or further afield.
Ann Hindson has recently become a CILIP assessor and as part of a small team visits universities offering courses that CILIP accredits. They look into everything from whether the institution is providing a high quality learning experience, through whether the course is relevant to employers, to the qualifications of teaching staff.
Ann is just back from a trip to the University of Hong Kong who are delighted to report that their two courses in Information Management are now fully accredited and the first such courses in the Far East to receive such recognition. http://www.cilip.org.uk/cilip/news/university-hong-kong-joins-ranks-cilip-accredited-learning-providers.
Ann is not only developing her own professionalism but ensuring that information and librarianship students are able to learn and develop their own skills in the best possible environment.
