Much precious spending money frequently gets invested in a complete set of textbooks that either turn out to be poor choices or available for free to borrow from the Library. Most books that are not marked as “recommended for purchase” on your reading lists are available in the library to borrow for free.
Reading lists tell you what you need to buy and how many copies are available in the Library. Borrowing books to read is free, so long as you bring them back when someone else requests them. Even among books your lecturer recommends you buy there are often several to choose between. It is often a good idea to wait until you can have a look at a copy in the library (check the catalogue to find the shelf mark number where you can find them) and see which you like best and find it easiest to learn from.
