OldMapsOnline goes mobile

A new version of OldMapsOnline was launched today with a new interface and new mobile application. OldMapsOnline is the world’s largest portal for freely available, high-resolution images of historic maps, bringing together many of the world’s largest online historic map collections in a single search interface. It was originally launched in 2012, with funding from JISC through the Great Britain Historical GIS Team at the University of Portsmouth. The site already indexes over 400,000 scanned maps from collections including The British Library, National Library of Scotland and the US Geological Survey. The new mobile application provides an easy-to-use interface that allows users to discover and explore historical maps directly on mobile phones and tablets, while using the device geolocation.
