Budget Day 2015

house of commons photoEach year the Chancellor of the Exchequer makes the Budget statement to the House of Commons outlining the state of the economy and the Government’s proposals for changes to taxation.  The House of Commons debates the Budget and scrutinises the subsequent Finance Bill, which enacts the Chancellor’s proposals.  Today is Budget Day for 2015, broadcast live today on the  Parliament TV website (it should appear in the recent archive if you missed it).

Politician’s speeches frequently tend to go on at length, though none more so than the 33,000 word speech given by William Gladstone on 18 April 1853 whose speech lasted a full 4 hours 45 minutes.
