My favourite read

The ghost of Thomas Kempe by Penelope Lively

Favourite book as a child: I must have read this book over and over as an older child / young teen – I was desperate for my own poltergeist and it is a charming and funny book to introduce children to ghost stories and to “grown ups just don’t understand me”.  It just pips the post above the Flambards trilogy, which of course has love, war, amazing dresses and ponies.  My pony phase didn’t last long, although my interest in love, war and amazing dresses has remained.
