Clicking the Referencing@Portsmouth icon takes you to Referencing@Portsmouth – a powerful online tool that explains and shows you examples for referencing almost anything you could want.  Simple to use but encyclopaedic in breadth, Referencing@Portsmouth is the authoritative place to find how to reference what you have read.

Highlighted features

Choose what referencing system you are using and find descriptions of how to reference different types of publication with advice on citing in the text, a general example showing the standard formats and plenty of examples covering all the variations.

  • Choose your referencing system and see only the answers you want.
  • Get descriptions of different resources to help you find what you are referencing.
  • From the top menu bar, click FAQ for answers for when things look a little peculiar.  If you have no date or even no author, if you citing a work mentioned in something you have read, or you are just worried about which letters to capitalise, the answers to al the questions we answer most often are here.
  • Citing works in the body text of your assignment giving your grief?  Choose Cite it from the top menu bar for advice on citing works of all kinds, including what to do when you cannot find all the information you think you need.

Most people find Referencing@Portsmouth solves most of their referencing problems but if you are still perplexed do not worry.  We are always here to help you.  Don’t be embarrassed, just get in touch.  Many people find referencing tricky at first but trust us,  you will gain confidence.

Don’t forget there are also two drop-in referencing help sessions this week: 1-2 pm Wednesday and 5.30-6.30 pm Thursday.  No need to book, just turn up with your problems and a copy of anything that is causing you problems and a Library referencing expert will be happy to sit down with you and help solve them.
